Fifty Great Books for Speech Therapy

I use books almost every single therapy session with every single student on my caseload. Literacy is crucial to student success, so I make it my goal to incorporate literacy into all of my therapy sessions. I get a lot of questions about which books I recommend for children. I compiled a list of fifty great books for speech therapy below!

How To Beef Up Your Classroom Library

I landed a job at a great elementary school fresh out of grad school, but the school didn’t have much in terms of materials. Luckily, I had a few children’s books to start with. I asked my friends and family on Facebook to let me know if they had any childrens books they were willing to give away, and I did a few grants on Donors Choose for additional book sets. Soon, I was well on my way to a large classroom library.

I use the books below to target speech and language goals at school, as well as at home with my own little ones. This is by no means a complete list….I use MANY other books throughout the year, but these are ones I believe everyone should have in their personal libraries. Click on the book titles below to see if I have a book companion for that book!

The Pigeon books are big hits with students. I still sometimes pull out either Clifford or Carl books for young students.

What an incredible honor to present at an ASHA Convention again, this time in DC, in what is the Centennial year of ASHA and coming up on the 250th anniversary of the USA! 🇺🇸

We spent the week touring DC as a family and teaching the kids all about our US History, trying new foods, and enjoying the cool fall weather and colorful leaves that we aren’t accustomed to.

My heart is full of gratitude as we start our long drive home tomorrow to get ready for Thanksgiving!
