Weather Dramatic Play
I LOVE incorporating dramatic play into speech therapy. One of the questions I get asked the most during my seminars on dramatic play is if I use it with older (upper elementary) students, and my answer is HECK YEAH! My fourth and fifth graders LOVE dramatic play, and many of my colleagues use my dramatic play sets with their middle school students as well! Kids have such limited opportunities for creative free play these days, especially in school. SLPs have a unique opportunity to target pretty much every goal imaginable with dramatic play, and the kids don’t even know they’re working! One of my favorite dramatic play centers to use each year is weather. I love having kids pretend to be the weather or news anchor. You can be fancy and use a green screen or a large map, OR you can just draw on the white board….either way, I promise you the students will love it. You can find the Dramatic Play Weather Channel set HERE. It includes all kinds of printables you can use for an instant weather channel station. I also ordered the rain jacket and microphone from Amazon HERE and the large US map tapestry HERE.
Weather Language Activities
I love using the above books to teach about weather events as I target comprehension, sequencing, fiction vs. nonfiction, opinion vs fact, comparing and contrasting, describing, vocabulary, and more! The following book companion targets all of these things and so much more! You can find it HERE.
If you’re looking for nonfiction comprehension and vocabulary activities, you might want to check out the Weather Vocabulary and Comprehension Packet. It’s full of all kinds of activities to target speech and language goals.
If you’re looking for NO Prep, this No Prep Weather Speech and Language Packet includes over 100 pages that are ready to just print and go….perfect for send home practice or teletherapy!
If you’re looking for season activities, this Seasons Sort and Stick activity is a simple but effective way to work on sorting, categories, and vocabulary while comparing and contrasting the different seasons.
In addition, I have an exclusive freebie that goes great with weather and water cycle theme!
