Are you looking for Life Cycle activities for speech therapy? I’ve put together a set of easy activities that are perfect for a life cycle theme! Amazon affiliate links are included throughout this post.
I love using life cycles in the speech room! They are perfect for Spring, but are also a fun way to work on speech and language goals such as sequencing and comprehension with nonfiction texts!
Life Cycle Books
Below, I listed my favorite books for a life cycle theme. If you want to see how I use these books in therapy, check out this blog post HERE.
- From Caterpillar to Butterfly, by Deborah Heiligman
- From Tadpole to Frog, by Wendy Pfeffer
- Where Chicks Come Frog, by Amy Sklansky
- What Will Hatch, by Jennifer Ward
- Pig’s Egg, by Katherine Sully
Life Cycle Tangibles
I also paired plastic animal pieces with the books so students would have a way to actually hold, touch, and feel the different stages of the life cycles. You can find the affiliate links to them below:

Life Cycle Language Activities
I love using the above books to teach life cycles as I target comprehension, sequencing, fiction vs nonfiction, opinion vs fact, comparing and contrasting, describing, vocabulary, and more! The following book companions target all of these things and so much more!
From Caterpillar to Butterfly book companion- includes color and black and white activities
From Tadpole to Frog book companion- includes color and black and white activities
Pig’s Egg book companion- includes color and some black and white activities
Pig’s Egg No Prep book companion- includes only black and white pages for a no prep option!
In addition, I have an exclusive freebie that goes great with a chicken life cycle! Readers on my email list have access to a Free Resource Library with tons of freebies you can find anywhere else! Life Cycle Articulation Activities
I get so many messages about how I incorporate articulation activities into my mixed groups and literacy lessons. The answer is that I do it in SO MANY WAYS! (Maybe that should be a new blog post???) But I made this new Boom Card Feed the Caterpillar Articulation activity, set, and my students are LOVING IT! There are cards for all initial sounds (with pictures and words), including /ch, sh, th, and blends/. It also pairs perfectly with The Very Hungry Caterpillar book!
Life Cycle Games
All of the book companions above have an open-ended game board at the end for playing with whatever targets you are using. Add mini erasers, frog hoppers, or any other mini objects for even more fun!
Using the frog hoppers are great for working on sentence building, phrase expansion, fluency, and more!
