Do you ever do a gingerbread theme in therapy? A gingerbread theme is the perfect opportunity to target following directions, colors, dramatic play, descriptions and adjectives, articulation and tongue placement, and so much more! I compiled a list of my favorite gingerbread books for speech therapy below. I included affiliate links, but you can find many of these as read-alouds online.
Gingerbread Books for Speech Therapy
- Gingerbread Baby, by Jan Brett– This is one of my favorites! I have two book companions for this book as well! One is a prepped companion with mostly color and a few black and white pages. The second is a No Prep companion, with all black and white pages!
- How to Catch a Gingerbread Man, by Adam Wallace & Andy Elkerton- My students love all of the “How To Catch” books…they’re so creative and fun!
- The Gingerbread Pirates, by Kristin Kladstrup- This is a new favorite for my pirate-loving son!
- Georgie the Gingerbread Fairy, by Tim Bugbird- This precious new addition to our collection is great for focusing on teamwork and inclusion!
- The Gingerbread Boy, by Paul Galdone- This classic is great for comparing and contrasting the story of the boy versus the baby!
- The Gingerbread Man, by Karen Schmidt- Another classic great for comparing the different versions of the story!
- There Was An Old Lady Who Swallowed a Spoon, by Lucille Colandro- Another classic “old lady” story that is sure to keep your students engaged and laughing!
- The Gingerbread Mouse, by Katy Bratun- This sweet story is great for expanding to include gingerbread houses!
- The Gingerbread Girl, by Lisa Ernst- This sweet story is a new one for us this year. It quickly became a student favorite!
- The Plan for the Gingerbread House, by Darcy Pattison- This STEM book is awesome for planning how to engineer the perfect gingerbread house!
