Bear Activities for Speech Therapy

Are you looking for bear activities for speech therapy? I love using a bear theme to transition from Winter to Spring! You can teach about how bears sleep during the Winter, and wake up in the Spring ready to eat! Whether it’s fun teddy bears or nonfiction polar bears and grizzlies, you can incorporate a bear theme with all ages! Amazon affiliate links are included throughout this post.

Bear Books

Until I started looking, I had no idea all of the amazing books out there about bears! Some of them I “borrowed” from my kids’ book collection at home, some I checked out from the school library, and others I’ve collected from Amazon or Scholastic over the years. But they’re all so fun and many are very informative! Here’s my favorite list. You can also check out this blog post with details of my favorite bear books and how I use them!

  1. ALL of the “Bear” Books by Karma Wilson and Jane Chapman
  2. Bears, by Deborah Hodge
  3. About a Bear, by Holly Surplice
  4. The Very Brave Bear, by Nick Bland
  5. Thank You Bear, by Greg Foley
  6. Saving Yasha, by Lia Kvatum
  7. Knut the Polar Bear, by Juliana, Isabella, and Craig Hatkoff
  8. We’re Going on a Bear Hunt, by Michael Rosen
  9. Never Feed a Bear, by Make Believe Ideas
  10. Don’t Wake the Bear, by Marjorie Murray

Bear Literacy Activities

If you’re looking for book companions, I have a TON! There’s a companion (sometimes more than one) for each of the “Bear books” by Karma Wilson. They’re available individually, or you can purchase them in a bundle HERE (new ones will be added as new titles are released).

Two of my favorite Bear books to use this time of the year are Bear Snores On and Bear Wants More. We use Bear Snores On to wrap up our Winter theme, and talk about how bears hibernate during the Winter months to preserve energy when the food is more scarce. But by Spring, the bears wake up, and they’re HUNGRY! Bear Wants More is particularly fun to use, because you can make it very interactive, either with Boom cards or real tangible items! In addition to the Bear books by Karma Wilson, you can also find companions for the nonfiction story, Knut the Polar Bear, as well as a new preschool companion for Never Feed a Bear!

The printable book companion for Bear Snore On includes activities in color, as well as black and white pages to use in class or send home as homework.

The printable book companion for Bear Wants More includes activities in color, as well as black and white pages to use in class or send home as homework. I used some felt pieces I had laying around from the Target Dollar Spot, along with some Easter grass and paper cutout clovers to make a quick “feed me” activity for Bear Wants More. Not only does this keep the students incredibly engaged, but we can also target sequencing as well!

A Boom Card version of Bear Wants More is also available, which includes activities for comprehension, sequencing, vocabulary, and more….all no prep and perfect for teletherapy!

The companion for Knut the Polar Bear is available HERE….my students love this true story, and I love that it includes information on animal conservation as well!

Never Feed a Bear is available HERE, and is the perfect interactive book for preschool!

Bear Language Activities

Besides book companions, I made a new Boom Card set for Bear Following Directions! Practice basic concepts, spatial concepts, and more! Sound is included for your non-readers! You can find it HERE.

Bear Articulation Activities

Feed the Bear Articulation Boom Cards are the perfect way to quickly target sounds in the initial positions of words. I love using these themed sets for progress monitoring and the beginning and the end of every session. Plus, this set fits perfectly with the book Bear Wants More, as you can feed the bear the same items Bear eats in the story!

Bear Craft

When I’m choosing a craft, I need it to be quick, low-prep, and functional! This Bear Writing Craftivity meets all of the criteria! It’s FREE for my email subscribers HERE. Not on my email list? Fill in your information and you’ll be emailed the password for all of the exclusive freebies!

What an incredible honor to present at an ASHA Convention again, this time in DC, in what is the Centennial year of ASHA and coming up on the 250th anniversary of the USA! 🇺🇸

We spent the week touring DC as a family and teaching the kids all about our US History, trying new foods, and enjoying the cool fall weather and colorful leaves that we aren’t accustomed to.

My heart is full of gratitude as we start our long drive home tomorrow to get ready for Thanksgiving!
