Do you ever do a Life Cycle theme in therapy? I recently added a Life Cycle theme into my themed calendar, because they’re perfect for Spring, and perfect for working on sequencing and cause and effect. I compiled a list of my favorite Life Cycle books for speech therapy below. Affiliate links are included, but you can find many of these as read-alouds on other websites. You can find other life cycle activities for speech therapy in this blog post HERE.
In addition to promoting literacy, books are perfect for working on many other goals. I can target articulation, vocabulary, comprehension, sequencing, fluency, grammar, MLU, and every other student goal using just a single book!
The Best Life Cycle Books for Speech Therapy
- From Caterpillar to Butterfly, by Deborah Heiligman I love this book for teaching about the butterfly life cycle! My book companion for it includes comprehension activities, factual information about butterflies, pictures of different butterfly types, and so much more. You can find it HERE.
2. From Tadpole to Frog, by Wendy Pfeffer is a wonderful book for teaching students about the frog life cycle, as well as nonfiction information about frogs! My book companion includes all kinds of activities for targeting speech and language skills, including sequencing, comprehension, and so much more! You can find it HERE.
3. Where Chicks Come Frog, by Amy Sklansky is a great nonfiction book about the chicken life cycle. I love the pictures it provides and the nonfiction information. Fair warning, though: for my younger elementary school students, there is a page I skip, that maybe goes a little too much in detail about the breeding process that may be too much for their age. I do have an exclusive freebie that goes great with this book, though! Readers on my email list have access to a Free Resource Library with tons of freebies you can find anywhere else! Not on the list? Click HERE to hop on so you can snag this and other great freebies!
4. What Will Hatch, by Jennifer Ward I love this book, as it goes through many different animals that hatch from eggs. Some are common animals, but others are less common, opening up great discussion! You can see a post I did about a craft for this book HERE.
5. Pig’s Egg, by Katherine Sully is such a sweet book about friendship, the desire to belong, and life cycles! I have two companions available for this book: a prep companion that has both color and black and white pages, and a completely no prep companion that has tons of pages to just print and go!
