Do you do a dental health theme in February? While February is usually slammed with Groundhog Day, Valentine’s Day, President’s Day, and Black history Month, I love sliding Dental Health in at the end of the month. It’s a great way to incorporate a dentist dramatic play theme, encourage good health and hygiene, and acts as a great bridge in between Winter and Spring. I compiled a list of my favorite Dental Health books for speech therapy below. Affiliate links are included, but you can find many of these as read-alouds on other websites.
In addition to promoting literacy, books are perfect for working on many other goals. I can target articulation, vocabulary, comprehension, fluency, grammar, MLU, and every other student goal using just a single book!

- The Night Before the Tooth Fairy, by Natasha Wing- Another adorable book from Natasha Wing, detailing all the excitement that comes the night before the Tooth Fairy comes, ending with an unexpected surprise!
- Just Going to the Dentist, by Mercer Mayer- As always, this is another cute book with the Little Critter characters. This time they go to the dentist!
- Community Helpers Dentists, by Cari Meister- This is a great nonfiction book that gives lots of factual information about dentists and teeth in kid-friendly language.
